Nirvana Bootography Review: ** This disc was originally issued with a video. (note the SP in the catalog number) most of them were separated once they reached the stores... If anyone has this video please email us. Thanks.
When I first listened to this disc, I was surprised at how early I heard "Demolition." I thought to myself... "Is that it?" Yup. 10 tracks, and the guitar demolition is actually the longest one. I got a very good deal on this disc, otherwise I would never pay full price for it.... it's just too short. There are too many good shows from this era to plop down $20-$30 for 10 tracks of a cut show. That's why it got a grade of "A-".
There are tons of discs out there of this same show, all of which are incomplete just like this one.... just click on the show-date in the specs at the top of this page and you'll see all of them (that I know of). It's kind of wierd, because it sounds like different songs are coming from different sources. All of them are good, but sometimes you can hear the crowd a little, and sometimes you can't. You may have seen part of this show on MTV's "Live and Loud." The show itself sounds pretty good. The band plays well, and the demolition at the end is more interesting than normal (I usually don't even listen to them).
The paper used for the inserts is not glossy... in fact it's textured and feels like thick news paper.. not bad, just different. The disc has the same picture as the cover, but Kurts face is hidden by the hole in the middle of the disc. (Check it out by clicking on the Additional Art link at the top of this page).
To sum it up: Good Show, excellent sound quality, typical performances, disc is too short. Any questions?
Dimitri L from France had this to add concerning the In Scope video:
About the In Scope video: One of my cousins has it (sadly not me) we watched it once. The artwork is quite different from the CD but sadly i don't remember it exactly and i don't see him anymore. Anyway, the contents is: The Pier 47 show as broadcasted by MTV...only with a black banner above the screen to hide the MTV tm! And the second part is the MTV Nirvana special...All that without the commerials in between of course :-)
Nothing comes from the horrible quality but complete home video tape version of the Pier 47 show, in case you were wondering.
