The song was recorded in November 1993 during the session for MTV's Unplugged. In December of that year, MTV aired the hour-long show. (Around that same time, MTV also aired "The Man Who Sold The World" by itself as a music video.) In the fall of 1994 the song was released on the album MTV Unplugged In New York. Promos were released in the United States, Spain, and Italy.
