It is clear from the pattern of the last few shows that the band is disintegrating, with each performance worse than the last. The band despite almost incessant touring around their previous 2 albums is struggling to handle the relatively small workload of 19 dates. The band was to play 2 nights at Palatrussardi in Milan.

The performance itself has little that stand out and the standard in general it must be said is very poor. This is perhaps best illustrated by Smells Like Teen Spirit which is extremely lacklustre even given the bands known aversion to the song. The only real highlights are this witty exchange that occurs shortly before Come As You Are and continued later before School.

Krist: I'm Billy Pumpkin
Kurt: Oh you are not, you're Meatloaf!
Dave: (casually) no you're Michael Jackson
Krist (before School) This is off our first record Bat Out Of Hell

Towards the end there are signs that the band is improving but the upturn isn't particularly great and the show tails off.

The Verdict

I would like to tell you it's bad but in truth it is really simply average. There is little dialogue, the above discourse excepted, there are no jams, no rare songs, mediocrity abounds and few songs rise above perfunctory. The latter songs do it must be said show some promise but largely the performance is distinctly ordinary.
