Some months after the Fecal Matter demo had been recorded, Krist Novoselic approached Kurt Cobain about starting up a band. (1) Rehearsals began in an empty apartment above Mrs. Novoselic's beauty shop, with a P.A. consisting of a guitar amp and a cheap microphone with a diaphragm taped to it. (1) The place soon became a hangout for local metalheads and Melvins aficionados. (1) This try-out session with local drummer, Robert McFadden, is said to have lasted less than two hours. (2)
