“I first realized that music could effect people emotionally after seeing Roy Orbison at the Bumbershoot festival,” says Kurdt Kobain, singer/guitarist of Nirvana. “It was one of the greatest things I've ever seen besides the Vatican.”
After only two singles, an EP and the amazing Bleach LP, Kobain and bassist Chris Novoselic have taken their brand of music a long way from home in Olympia, Washington. After two trips to Europe and a recent tour with Sonic Youth, the band is picking up steam and attracting hordes of new supporters. Are Nirvana a punk rock band? “That's all we are.”
For those who haven't heard them do their thing, check it out: riff-heavy songs and sparse, angst-ridden lyrics. Nirvana's future plans include “keeping on doing it” and “getting some new trucks.” Alright!
