We're not sure if this is an official release or not. The insert/j-card looks normal except for some text listed below, plus "DGM 1565" on the spine. Here's a great description of the item from its owner (he also provided the images):
-
"...insert says printed in Australia, and also says 'Manufactured under license in Indonesia and distributed by PT.RIS MUSIC WIJAYA INT'L.' It says in English 'For sale in Indonesia only.' and in Indonesian says 'HANYA UNTUK DIJUAL DI INDONESIA' which means only for sale in Indonesia.
"I bought this cassette in Bali summer 1998 for around two dollars. Liner notes make it look like the Australian licensee has licensed this Indonesian product. All liner notes are in English, except for the aforementioned language on the front of the cassette insert.
"Following looks to be Australia specific info in the notes: 'Geffen Records, Distributed by BMG Australia Limited a Bertelsmann Music Group Company. All trademarks and logos are protected. Printed in Australia. ©(P) 1996 Geffen Records, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Unauthorized duplication is a violation of applicable laws.'
"The actual cassette and printing upon it are certainly of Indonesian production, the cassette being of cheap quality and the printing blurry. Has no song listing, only band name, album title, copyright warning, the Geffen logo, the Geffen catalog number, the Indonesian licensee's logo (I presume that's what it is), and the MCA records logo...
"On the actual case itself (on the edge) there is the Indonesian government's tax stamp showing tax paid..."
I won't pretend to know how things are done in other parts of the world. In fairness to those that have commented, please note that someone did tell me this was an official release and was advertised locally in Australia. However, Rob Heron, who lives in Sydney, pointed out:
-
"Licensees here rarely manufacture items to be re-sold in a neighbouring country. Looking at the picture you sent me, it doesn't look like the type of cassettes that are normally made here; Australian DGC tapes usually are the same as their US counterparts."
