Spring Is Here Again

Live Nirvana Bootography Rating: C+

Live Nirvana Bootography Review:
Songs are from the 1991.11.11 show at Markthalle, in Hamburg, Germany -- not Belgium as the sleeve claims.
This is the type of bootleg that is somewhat disappointing. All of the tracks fade in when they begin and fade out at the end of the song, Smells Like Teen Spirit is missing completely (presumably so that the show could fit onto a single LP). The in-between song banter and crowd reaction that makes a live show fun to listen to have been edited out. The sound quality is above average, and live collectors do possess various uncut versions of this concert.

There's no point in buying "Spring Is Here Again" because you'll get the same continuity with better sound quality if you buy a disc like "From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah." This bootleg had the potential to be very good, but was ruined by whoever mastered the the original "Bleach Pop" disc (which this release is sourced from) for Halloween Records.

However, the 11/11/91 concert is one of the very best of the tour, and despite the flaws on this release, is still well worth considering.
The Vinyl is available in two colors: black and pink, The Matrix listed above is from the pink vinyl. Etchings on Side B were too faint to read.

This disc contains a solid audience recording as the band was just hitting peak form.
The highlights are a really powerful version of Aneurysm, a monstrous start to Breed, a perfect opening verse and chorus of Lithium, and a slow but steady Pennyroyal Tea. Blew is also played very well.
Some of the songs are cut in, which is annoying, but very little is actually missing - in fact, on listening to ANA3 of the master on CDR, it is apparent that the cuts actually help the flow of the show by removing ridiculously long tuning breaks.
Although the sound is a little muddy, the drums sound gloriously powerful and upfront, especially the cymbals. If you like your recordings to be heavier in the low-end frequencies (like 10/24/90), then this is another essential one for you.
One of my favourites, and surely one of the best shows of the era.
