 1987 - 1993 (The Complete Radio & Studio Sessions)

Live Nirvana Bootography Rating: A

Live Nirvana Bootography Review:

This bootleg was stolen from an "old" version of a compilation called "Loose Ends" that was made by a fan/trader, with some tracks deleted and the track order reshuffled. Upgrades to many of the tracks have since surfaced and it's recommended to seek out the latest upgrades instead, which also appear in remastered form on the latest version of "Loose Ends".

Disc 1: 1990 – 1993 (written on the black CD)

Tracks 1 – 3 are from 01-xx-93 - Ariola Ltda BMG Rio de Janeiro, BR
Tracks 4 – 7 are from 11-25-91 - NOB Radio Studio, Hilversum, NL
Track 8 is from 11-09-91 Maida Vale BBC Studio, London, UK
Track 9 is from 09-03-91 Maida Vale BBC Studio, London, UK
Tracks 10 – 12 are from 04-xx-90 Smart Studios, Madison, WI, US
Tracks 13 – 17 are from 01-01-91 - Music Source Studios,Seattle, WA, US

Tracks 1 – 3 are from the MP3 Version and sound very good.
Very Ape goes direct into Gallons of Rubbing …, which fades out at the very beginning.

Tracks 4 – 7 are from the Real Media Version and sound fantastic.
Every banter is present.

Tracks 8 and 9 are from the BBC sessions, clearly DAT sourced and without compression.
They sound as good as the current trading circle versions and 100% complete with no fade.

Tracks 10 – 12 are from Kurdt's Tape Side A.
There’s no hiss, but no noise reduction seems to be used. It seems to have been reduced the normal way.

Tracks 13 – 17 are from the old ANA(1).
They sound bad and the drums is very overdriven, but the speed is correct.

Disc 2: 1987 – 1989 (written on the white CD)

Tracks 1 – 4 are from the 10-26-89 Maida Vale BBC Studio, London, UK
Tracks 5 – 7 are from the 06-xx-88 Reciprocal Studios, Seattle, WA, US
Track 8 is from 87/88 Cobain residence, Aberdeen, WA, US
Track 9 is from 01-23-88 Reciprocal Studios, Seattle, WA, US
Tracks 10 – 13 are from 87/88 Cobain residence, Aberdeen, WA, US
Tracks 14 – 20 are from 04-xx-87 KAOS–FM, Olympia, WA, US

Tracks 1 – 4 are from the BBC sessions, from DAT.
This version is complete, no fade in or out, but it’s worse sounding compared to the Heart-Shaped Box set. It seems to be compressed.
The strangest thing is that Spank Thru has the first note much quiter than anything other.

Track 5 is from Kurdt's Tape Side A.
It is the best version for this song and very crisp.

Track 6 is from Grunge is Dead with all the hiss and the wrong speed.
It’s terrible!

Track 7 is from Kurdt's Tape Side A.
It is the best version for this song and very crisp.

Track 8 is clearly the version JWB made for Loose ends as this has the guitar noise from Into The Black.
Good quality, funny song.

Track 9 is from the Touch and Go demo.
It has the small speed problem, but is very good quality and has the hiss reduced the normal way.
It’s the best ever released version of this song.

Track 10 is from a source I don’t know.
It’s likely the same source as for Loose Ends as it’s not from the Hollywood Rock Festival boot. (no audible crackles).

Tracks 11 – 12 are from Dressed for Success.

Track 13 is from the Touch and Go demo.
Very good sound quality and no fades.

Tracks 14 – 20 are from the FM > ANA(3) trading circle version.
They sound as good/bad as this version does. The between song banter seem to be present.
I like them better than First Live show and same as OUT V.

I think some of the tracks may be from Loose Ends if not most.
Can someone compare the Track times. I have noted the correct ones.

I like this boot a lot. It’s very nice and good sounding except (Disc 1 (13 – 17) & Disc 2 (06).
This disc has some free space. They could have included Old Age (boombox) D-7 (test mix) or Old Age (acoustic) or 11-01-89 VPRO Radio show or Gypsies from MOH (long version) as conter to Mrs Butterworth.

This disc was pressed 2005.

The set has a slip case around it and in it it’s a large double CD digipack.
Every track/session is well described with mosttly correct dates.

Notes from the back of the slip case (obiously no longer accurate)

This compilation contains every known studio and radio session currently available that has not had an official release. This, along with “With The Lights Out”, the recently released box set, presents every known Nirvana recording. Every track on this compilation is taken from the best available source. In addition to this, all tracks have been carefully remastered to ensure the best quality sound possible.
