Unbeknown to Dan Peters, Dave Grohl auditions for NIRVANA at The Dutchman rehearsal space; the young drummer's heavy style making an instant impression. We knew within two minutes that he was the right drummer, Novoselic told band biographer, Michael Azerrad. He was a hard hitter. He was really dynamic. He was so bright, so hot, so vital. He rocked. (1) After a brief run through of the songs on Bleach, it was clear that this was my new position, recalled Grohl. (2)

Later that day, while performing an acoustic set on KAOS-FM's Boy Meets Girl show, Cobain announces the band's revised line-up live on air; only later does he summon up the courage to telephone Peters with the news. (1)
