A couple of years ago I searched around the Web to see if any books about Leadbelly were highly recommended. The Life and Legend of Leadbelly was one title I remember reading about. It also happened to be the only Leadbelly biography that my library had. I wasn't disappointed by the limited selection, though. This book was very informative and featured (as I recall) a semi-thorough "sessions guide" that detailed which songs were performed at various radio and studio sessions (and even those Leadbelly did at some parties), plus which albums the songs were released on. I would definitely recommend this book to any Nirvana fan looking to learn more about Leadbelly.
Although the 1976 movie Leadbelly is highly regarded (from what I've read), I enjoyed the book much more.
(Information above is for the book currently being sold by Amazon. The version I read was published in 1992 by HarperCollins.)
